"As a former athlete, I understand athletes are “Wired” differently and operate under unique physical, mental, and emotional demands, it is essential to seek emotional and wellness coaching from a former or current athlete who possesses the insight, expertise, and lived experience necessary to guide others through the challenges they may face in school, personal life, and the pursuit of peak athletic performance..." Our Expertise...
Welcome to Mind Champs for Student Athletes. I’m Dr. K. Austin, your Student‑Athlete Emotion and Wellness Coach. My goal is to help you keep your “Head in the Game” by strengthening mental skills, improving emotional resilience, and building routines that support consistent performance on and off the court/field. I bring over 25 years of experience coaching and mentoring student-athletes, with a specialized focus on the mental wellness aspects of sports and competition that directly influence performance on the field, court, and beyond. My work emphasizes the mental, emotional, and social dimensions of athletic development, helping athletes build resilience, confidence, and purpose. Additionally, I am a certified Special Education teacher that has taught and managed students with an IEP for 19 years. Experiencing successes with hundreds of students in that capacity, has equipped me with proven techniques that are highly effective.

How We Help...
Mind Champs support student-athletes who may be facing challenges such as diminished motivation, loss of competitive drive, emotional experiences that impacts performance, or difficulty meeting the goals and expectations set by themselves, their coaches, and their parents. Through proven strategies and individualized guidance, I help them rediscover their passion for competition, strengthen their mindset, and achieve success both in athletics and in life.
Why We Help...
When an athlete hits a performance low, missing shots they normally make, losing the strike zone, or struggling to connect at the plate. The issue is often labeled as a “mental hurdle.” But simply telling them to keep shooting, keep swinging, keep throwing, or just keep working does not resolve the root problem.
These performance dips are frequently driven by emotions and internal distractions that disrupt focus and consistency. To restore peak performance, the athlete’s mental and emotional state must be addressed directly. That means equipping them with proven techniques and strategies to manage pressure, reset their mindset, and navigate the mental hiccups that interfere with their game.
Supporting the mental approach isn’t optional for elite performance…it’s essential!
